Valenwind – Dreamcatcher

"No... no, please don't this to him... I beg you, please don't, just-- Oh Gaia, Cid!!"

Shouting out his beloved's name, Vincent woke up from one of his torturing nightmares. The black-haired man sat himself up as he panted for breath. He then took a moment to realize that he was still in Cid's room, still on the bed with the blanket covering half of his pale body. To make himself more comfortable and reassuring, he looked at the sleeping blonde man next to him who's probably... Wait, he's not there.

"Cid?" This turns the eye-widened Vincent into panic mode. He cannot spot the pilot anywhere in the lightly darken bedroom. "Cid, where are you? Cid!" He quickly got out of bed and was about to literally search the room upside down when the adjoining bathroom door opened.

Vincent, now in full alert, immediately turns his head to the opened bathroom door. The figure coming out was the half-naked pilot, wearing a comfy pair of dark green sweat pants. Cid just finished having his nighttime drink of water after he heard Vincent shouting his name. Like he always does whenever the gunman was in any kind of trouble, he came to see what the commotion was about.

Vince, are ya alright?" Cid asked while looking at his beloved man with a mix of wonder and worry.

"Oh, Cid..." the gunman started to say. "I just... I just had..." All the sudden, fresh tears begin to pour down over the next words that Vincent was going to say. Soon later, the emotions got the hold of him. He sat himself on the bed while producing a pair of small waterfalls from his eyes. His face was looking down, with his black hair covering it, and not at Cid's direction. He doesn't want the pilot see him like this, for they will only tell him that he was having one of those nightmare reruns again.

Nevertheless, Cid knew already what the problem was, even without the gunman's tears giving him the obvious clue. The pilot went to the sobbing Vincent and he sits next to him. Then he wraps his warm bare arms around him, in attempt to provide comfort and warmth.

"There, there Vince..." Cid begins telling him with a calming, compassionate voice. "It's alright. Everythin's going ta be okay."

"No, it won't... it won't be... Cid..." More tears powered the speed of the water flow from Vincent's crimson eyes, and in result, making his pale face a wet mess. To cover it up, he dug deeper into Cid's chest.  He doesn't agree that everything's going to be alright just because of a familiar nightmare reappeared in his sleep. But he at least took advantage of hugging back the pilot, nonverbally telling him thanks for trying to comfort him. Vincent always appreciated his beloved's caring efforts.

Cid continued to hug the sobbing man. The pilot does not want to do this, not even at this current situation when Vincent was having a moment, but he must in order to strengthen his efforts to relax the gunman back to sleep. He gently pulled away the hug and look at Vincent with opening ears and listening eyes.

"Was it the same dream ya had before?" The pilot asked him, "About me being one of Hojo's experiments? And I died while the Mako was inserted into my body?"

The ex-Turk didn't answer right away, for he feared the nightmares will returned to him as punishment for being a little teller-tale. He only looks at Cid with his watery eyes along with dried-up water streaks on his face.

He didn't want to push him further, but not having the words being slapped at him is making Cid more worried. The pilot was in desperate need of finding the cause of this uneasy night, and in hope, come up with a solution to end it.

"Vincent?" Cid said the gunman's name correctly, in attempt of getting him to answer. "Wasn't it the same dream ya...?"

"Yes, yes! It was! It was the same damn nightmare I had before!" Vincent couldn't hold on this painful feeling any longer, and he released the answer with more tears producing a heavy rainfall. Cid can only stare at him with surprise. "I kept on telling him to stop and let him experiment on me instead! But he wouldn't listen, and he went on with the process of adding the Mako inside of you. You didn't have the strength to handle the side effects of it, and you screamed in pain and later died. Oh, Cid, I tried so hard to save you, but that bastard had already tied me into chains and prevented me to do so! I'm so sorry, Cid! I'm so--"

The distressed tear-making gunman was interrupted by the unexpected touch of Cid's lips upon his. As his response, like the button that turns off the sound speakers, Vincent didn't continue to burst out the words describing his recent nightmares. The kiss was warm and tender, the kind that he always enjoyed while making contact with the pilot, and he let it relax him.

As the moment continues, everything got quiet down as an ideal peaceful night should be. Vincent was still kissing his beloved pilot while he felt gently being pushed onto the bed. His long lean body is stretched across the covered mattress, and his head resting on a fluffy pillow with his raven-black hair spilled over it. Cid, who is now on top of him, pulled the blankets over him and the gunman as to shield away anything that might disturb the moment. He's still showering him with all the comfort and warmth he can provide; even deepen the kiss a little further. Then after knowing the gunman calmed down completely, Cid breaks away to look at him.

"Vince," the pilot begins to speak. "Did I ever tell ya about a dreamcatcher I used ta have?"

"Hmm, I think you told me before..." Vincent thought as he remembered about a short story of Cid having his nightmares when he was a young boy. Those dreams could not have possibly been worse than his own; however, the results of having them at night leads to Cid's mother to bring him a crafted spider-web with feathers and beads. It was simply called a dreamcatcher. "It's a thing that chases away the bad dreams, right?"

"Yep, and also, ta bring in the good dreams as replacement fer these damn nightmares of yours."

"But Cid, had you lost it somewhere?"

"Nah, ya don't need that dreamcatcher..." The pilot sealed in another kiss before adding, "Ya already had one."

Vincent was slightly confused. It's whether remembering one of Cid's stories, or he was too tired of retelling his repeated nightmare, or he was enjoying the same flavor from the pilot's lips. Or, it might as well be all of the above. When his mouth was free from the short kiss, he asked his beloved, "What do you mean Cid? That I 'already had one'?"

"What I mean is," the pilot explained while he lightly nuzzles Vincent's neck. "I chase away your nightmares and brought ya good dreams, which they are mostly about kissin' you to sleep..." Hearing that, Vincent let out a soft mourn, and at the same time, Cid returned his face to the gunman's. "...And didn't I promise ya before that I'll be with ya so ya can rest peacefully?"

"Yes, you did say that to me," Vincent answered before a slight smile appeared on his face. "And now I just realized... since you came into my life..." The gunman wraps his arms around Cid's back, and his now dried crimson eyes are glued to the pilot's baby blues. "I do have my dreamcatcher all along... it was you..." After saying his realization, Vincent pulled Cid closer enough to kiss him, tasting once again the pure tenderness from the pilot's lips.

Throughout the rest of the night, no more of Vincent's nightmares came to haunt him. It was so, because of Cid as a repellent, they were shooed away and they never dared to disturb the lovely couple. As long as Vincent had his dreamcatcher, aka his beloved pilot, his sleep will be a peaceful paradise for as long as the quiet night should hold.

At last, it's about time to post this bad boy up, along with the preview picture. Harooy for procrastination! :dummy:

Short summary: Vincent was having one of his nightmares of losing his beloved pilot. Thankfully, he was only dreaming, and Cid was there by his side to reassure that. I was hoping that the preview picture did provide you a little hint. ;)

Hope you guys enjoyed the story! I personally thank all the deviants who inspiried me, espeically :icontribreed-demon: and her "Blood and Tears" Valenwind fan fictions. Without that inspiration, this piece would have never existed.
