First off, my apologies for not giving you my watchers an update for a long while. From preparing the move and after settling in to my recent events of going to the Wizard Comic Con and seeing a great friend of mine from high school, things had been gripping me with busyness. Oops!

Thankfully, I got some time to give you guys enclosure on what you had been wondering what I had been doing for the past few weeks (probably not, but just in case). Wink/Razz

A DAY @ THE WIZARD COMIC CON

Let’s begin with my experience of going to a convention for the first time in my life. The Wizard Comic Con took place in the weekend of August 22
nd, about three weekends ago, and I just had a blast. I really REALLY had a blast, I’m not lying. :happybounce: My father made this possible, not just for me to meet the awesome cosplayers and the people who are just as fangirling as I am, but also he thinks that if I were to present a portfolio of my recent works to the artists in the Artist Alley, I may be able to make connections and even get advice to improve in the future. That actually happened. The one artist in particular, whose goes by Erik, looked over my works and even though he acknowledged I got great stuff going on (like the rough pen sketches), he advised me to try something new. By that, take on different art mediums, like watercolors and paints, and sketch more and practice. More simply, never be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, and that will be my golden goal that point forward. Which means I will eventually get myself into digital art with a drawing tablet and the program Paint Tool Sai (adds that to her this year’s Christmas Wish List along a new laptop). :XD: Another great advice he awknowledges is watch how artists draw and create, and take notice of how they do this and that, etc. I can actually watch progress videos and I have this desire to go to some kind of drawing gathering and watch other artists draw and get tips and such. That would be awesome in my book. Nod

What’s interesting hearing from Erik is that he used to be like me ten years ago (he’s 33 years of age), and he used to stay in one certain spot until came the time he was out of his comfort zone and create numerous amount of works. That really puts in perspective for me, and that gives me the encouragement and the bravery to keep on going forward in the art world. Simply put it this way: I was glad that we had met and gained this kind of experience. :D (Big Grin)

Along with meeting the artists and buying most of their prints, I really had fun just glancing over the sections of everything comic and non-comic (videogames, anime, Halloween, etc.). I got to meet awesome cosplayers whom which my dad would ask me what character they are and what fandom they’re from. He was overwhelmed by the craziness of the people who cosplay, and I was amused by him and myself that I know almost all of the characters at the convention. Wizard Comic Con is basically my second home and I have many plans to go back there, maybe in cosplay, I don’t know, but I’m coming back next year and I’m dragging my boyfriend and my brother there. :w00t:

FUTURE ART PLANS

From that sub-title, expect some changes here.

I recently reunited with a great friend of mine from post middle school and high school. He and I were talking about creating a web comic series and possible videogame together. The details are TOP SECRET, so sorry NO DETAILS EXPOSED, but I can tell you that a web comic is possible since we don’t know a programmer to help us make a game. This is where I will leave out my comfort zone and get serious. Thus, expect less fanarts and more original artworks of character designs and practiced sketches of dynamic non-linear poses. While I cannot post any character concept arts without his permission, I can at least post up some sketches from the exercises he given me. So there’s that. In addition of practicing poses using references, I can juxtaposed them with some fandom love (like drawing canon and crack DMMD OTPs while playing that Click+Drag game on Tumblr, etc.). And since the web comic will be done in digital media, this is a good time to ask for a drawing tablet and the Paint Tool Sai program (immediately saves up money and adds those in her Christmas Wish List). In final words, I think I may be part of something big. B-) (Cool)

In the meantime before touching to digital media, I have been experimenting with some traditional mediums other than my usual colored-pencils-pen-ink-pastels combo. Recently, I duct taped more boxes for storage and decorative purposes, and I’m currently working on a Super Mario Bros’ Flying Question Box. Crafting the Usagimodoki boxes with duct tapes, in that aftermath I slowly becoming a sucker for anything duct tape. I am a dummy! So much so I had planned for a Tetris’ Square Box Block design. :XD: I really wanted to make costumed charms out of that medium, so we’ll see about that. Along with duct tape, I revisited paper crafting as a mixed media form consisting of origami patterned paper and some pens and colored pencils. I will soon revisit acrylic paints and maybe watercolors as well.

Now, since I’m experimenting with different mediums, this is where my future fanarts will be conceived. Sketching-wise, not in super-duper-high-quality those are my other works in the past. Stare The sketches of DMMD characters are prime examples of this sketching-wise quality:

Wait until I try to paint them. This will be fun. :XD:

Well, this reaches the end of the update. I will leave you now with my greeting, “Keep On Drawing”. Have a great rest of the week everyone! Take care! :D
